As my daughter grows I’ve so enjoyed dressing her in Minouche and handing down this quality girls clothing to her cousins. So I’ve quizzed designer & owner Ally Mahoney on her latest collection and to find out what’s forecast for Autumn/Winter 18 kids fashion so you can get in on the trends!

Memories of Christmas holidays as a child were the inspiration behind the Minouche summer collection… Long, warm days running around outdoors and plenty of gatherings with family and friends. “I wanted to create pieces that work well for play, some for all those lovely Christmas parties, and some that work equally well for both” explains Ally.

The little Evie playsuits have been a best-seller since launch, either for days spent exploring or transformed into the perfect party outfit by adding the coordinating tulle wrap skirt. The ruffle-bum bloomers have also been a big hit. Who doesn’t love to see a little toddler showing off their sweet legs in a little pair of bloomers!

Autumn/Winter 2018 girls fashion

Expect a more traditional, cooler weather palette – lots of jewel tones paired with mustard, rust and terracotta.  These colours were so big last year but Ally predicts we will be seeing even more of them this Autumn.

Texture will continue to be an important aspect of design and something that a lot of the smaller, boutique designers are embracing. It’s a wonderful point of difference from the mass market and high street brands.

“For our Autumn/Winter 18 collection we are using some beautiful cotton/linen blends, chunky knits, soft baby corduroys and textured voiles.”

In terms of design, the love of vintage inspired styles remain strong, particularly for childrenswear. Many of the pieces Ally has created for next season have been inspired by clothing she wore as a child. Or sewing patterns her Mum used to use.

How to wear vintage?

Ally tells us that styles are kept fresh and modern by using innovative or otherwise interesting fabrics. Or pair a classic vintage design with another piece in a more modern style.

It seems that 2018 is steering towards a ‘slow down’ movement and harking back to simpler days. I, for one, am a big fan!
