Kids’ Shared Bedroom Design Inspiration

Having boy/girl twins posed a bit of a challenge when it came to a kids’ shared bedroom design.

I had an idea of what I wanted, but enlisted their help for final selection which was fun and they were engaged with the design process. This could even mean they won’t outgrow it too quickly?! Here’s hoping.

The Look & Feel

First up, a rough mood board of products which really kept me on track when I spotted things in the shops and online. Would it work? Do I really like it? Head back to your mood board and you’ll easily stay focussed.

The Wall Mural

Everything really centred around the jungle wall mural. We live in a really leafy suburb, the twins love the outdoors and I love Australian design. So we went for the Rain Forest wall mural by Typoflora for Materialised.

Gorgeous hand drawn illustrations with watercolour elements, printed in Sydney onto Silk Road wall vinyl. Materialised service the interior design and trade industry but their wallpaper and vinyl is available through retailers in Australia and New Zealand.

Getting the installation right is really important. It comes on a roll so it’s not wise to try to do it yourself! I found JJ Signs who did a fantastic job.

The Beds

These Luxo Living teepee beds are so much fun! With the addition of ‘Erges’ sheers made into a canopy by Nanna they feel like they are camping every night. There was a choice of plain timber, pink or white and they were really budget-friendly at AUD $180 each.

The Rug

Oh this perfect rug! The Alpine 822 Natural by Rug Culture completely finished the room. I admit I agonised over the choice but you can get some tips on what I did to ensure I was 100% happy about the decision.

It was the last thing I added to the room and Anika’s immediate response was, “I absolutely love it! We made a dull old house into an amazing house!” They are pretty keen on home decor. I got a new chair for my home office and Morgan said, “I can’t LIVE without that chair!”

We now read books sprawled on our tummies on the floor as it’s so soft. I wouldn’t have wanted to do that with the last one!

So, how do the twins feel about their new room? Well before this shared bedroom, Anika had her own room and the boys were together. Now, I keep finding that the twins have hopped into the same bed to snuggle whilst our #covidkitty is asleep on the other bed. It has definitely made their bond even stronger.
