A simple and effective way to update your child’s room is with a new print or two!
We are moving our 3-year old up from a toddler to single bed and I’m in the processing of buying animal and bird prints for her new space.
Having come across some wonderful new products at the trade show Life Instyle and The Finders Keepers markets, I thought it would be good to round-up a selection of the best – some new, some classics.
Enjoy!
Part of the inspiration to write this was seeing this amazing salmon-crested cockatoo poster by Erstwhile at Life Instyle.
At a bold 80 x 125 cm it comes with aged timber baton hangers and is just a bit different – stunning in a kids room (or any part of the home for that matter) Check out their botanical charts too!
An exhibitor at both events was lovely Donna from Taylored Dots and whilst I had admired her work on social media for a while, these prints really are quite something in real life!
I have featured Willow the Wolf due to my son’s obsession with them but I also adore her deer and rabbit with flower crowns in a collaboration with Ink Hearts Paper.
If you’re after something that packs a colour punch then say hi to Gino the Majestic Tiger print by Mulga the Artist, from Love By Five.
Currently this is on sale for only $20 for A3 size! I featured one of Mulga’s prints in a photoshoot recently and the quality is superb.
From tigers to lions and you can’t do a print round-up without featuring the online store Leo & Bella where all three prints below are from. What a collection!
- I adore Pax and Hart’s designs, by Melbourne artist Emma Labattaglia. They are simple and calming and when I photographed her Bowie poster recently it just looked so elegant without even trying. Meet Sir Scout below…
- A print of an original pen and ink drawing, this Big Bear print is part of a series by Seventy Tree which caught my eye a while ago with Mr Fox. Fun and cheeky they add real character to a space.
- Part of the ‘Among the Clouds’ series by Mrs Mighetto, Mr Oscar is a stunning limited edition watercolour and a real classic for children’s rooms.
Back to some colour and the lovely polka dot flamingo from Yorkelee which I’ve been looking super cute in a girls bedroom on Instagram.
These prints are very affordable – check out their howling wolf and I love the custom name print too.
Another recent find from Life Instyle and something a bit different as it’s a tea towel, is this budgie from I Ended Up Here. Being a bit bonkers about birds I love Dan’s ‘The Flock’ greeting cards collection and could quite happily hang them all as art around my home!
I’m loving the horse prints that are really on trend and one of my favourite stores right now is Laikonik. In fact this A2 horse print is one that I have bought for Anika’s room as I love the Nordic design and think it will look very striking in her space. See my design board on Instagram for other pieces I’m putting together. I can’t wait for the bed to arrive!
A completely different take on horses is this print on a tea towel by Cat Lee. I spotted it on the La La Land stand at The Finders Keepers Markets and love the clash of girly colours which work especially well on linen.
Have you seen the fabulous illustrations by Michelle Carlslund? I have been very taken by her work for a while. Not only are her Danish designs playful and charming, but they are printed on stone paper! Her cheeky cat print is available from Miann & Co.
Another cutie is this Anna Kovecses cat with a green bow from Leo & Bella. With a certain air of confidence and mischievous eyes it will look captivating in any kids room.
And now for these beauties…
WhatWeDo’s Faunascape range, published by Paper Empire, is just lovely. We have the fox in Hunter’s room, gazing up at some bat decals. But I chose the polar bear for this round-up for his contented gaze and beautiful snowy scenery.
The ‘Messy Hare Don’t Care‘ is part of a woodland-themed Messy Collection (including a bear and forest) from One Tiny Tribe. I should buy this for Anika just for its name as we are only allowed near her hair once every few months and it has never been cut! And there’s just something very enchanting about hares in prints for me.
Studio Cockatoo produce some awesome prints and the look from this alpaca makes me smile. They have an enormous range, full of colour and quirkiness.
And I’ve got to include a little Aussie animal! There couldn’t be a round-up without one of Sharon Montrose fine art photographic prints from The Animal Print Store. It was very hard to pick just one actually – I’d like to feature her whole Little Darling collection. These are timeless, and the little wallaby caught my eye.
And finally, another illustrator whose work I adore (and found it really hard to choose just one image), is Pete Cromer.
His entrancing colours and designs get me every time. I’ve chosen his wedge-tailed eagle but you must check out his other birds, horses and cats… stunning.
The Winners!
